Description
It was a glorious spring day, in the Arizona Sonoran Desert. The desert becomes a showy display of color. It was no exception this day in May, at the Saguaro National Park Rincon Mountain District (USA). I wanted to capture some of the cactus flower wonders of this unique and fabulous National Park (one of three in Arizona). Despite a not so wet Winter, they were in full bloom.
Saguaro National Park is home to 25 species of cactus ranging from the towering saguaro cactus (Carnegiea gigantea) to the tiniest type of cactus in the park, the mammillaria. One of the common cacti species found at Saguaro National Park and within Tucson, Arizona include the "Staghorn Cholla Cactus (Opuntia versicolor), this one with slender purple stems, and beautiful, deep yellow flowers.
People travel here from all over the world, to visit this unique place. The only National Park in Arizona named after the Saguaro Cactus.
I love how the sun has has backlit this vibrant yellow bloom. Sheer "Yellow Radiance" and real standout, against the abstracted Purple Stag Cholla cactus background.

The pollination by the bees can create quite a variety of colors to the flowers. The purple cactus lent itself to a purplelicious background for this composition. Yellow and purple being such complementary colors. I delighted to know what you love about it.
