Description
The underside of a flower is usually not what attracts us to a flower, but I love to view it that way, all the many intricacies in the design of the flower. Kind of like that saying, it's what you are on the inside that counts.
The sun is catching the petals of this desert marigold (Baileya multiradiata) just right. Creating a golden opportunity for me to capture that different side, to how marvelously they are made.
It has a wooly, hairy look to the foliage and stems as you can see. For a good reason too, as these hairs are important to desert plants, as they increase light reflection, resulting in lower leaf temperatures, and they block ultraviolet light. Giving this bloom their hardiness in the face of the hostile desert climate.

Thank you, Constance for sharing thoughts about this piece. How can I possibly pass up an opportunity like this, to photograph flowers that are wild and free. Dazzling even from this perspective.

Thank you Gordy for participating in the For the Love of Flowers promotion thread, and sharing such a nice comment. A shallow depth of field shot always produces such a lovely, natural background. In this case, the vegetation in the background giving that blue hue. I appreciate you sharing on Twitter and Facebook, too.

Debby! Thank you for checking out my photography gallery, and sharing such a nice comment. I really appreciate that, the Tweet, and supporting the discussion threads. I shot it from this perspective to showcase the sunlit petals and the protective fuzzy-wuzziness on the back of the plants, acting as a protection from the heat, as per my description.
