Description
Living on an acre of Sonoran Desert landscape, means visitors from various desert fauna. Birds, mammals, and reptiles.
One of those visitors, was this Sonoran Gophersnake, Pituophis catenifer affinis, it is a commonly-seen snake in semi-urban areas Arizona. It can be a little scary at first sight, wanting to make sure it is not a rattlesnake. After close investigation (from a far though), it doesn't have the viper face, nor the rattles on the tail.
The Sonoran Gophersnake is non-venomous, and primarily inhabits the Sonoran Desert ecosystem of the Southwest USA, and into northern Mexico.

Revisiting this amazing creature! Congratulations on your feature in American Desert Southwest. FL
Janet Marie replied:
Revisiting a snake image, hmm, no yikes this time. LOL! I shared some food for thought on your previous comment. I appreciate you taking notice of my Homepage Features, and sending a Congrats. That is most kind of you.

Yikes! I know they are not dangerous (other than frightening you to death), but they do have their purpose! Congratulations on your feature in The Beauty of Arizona. FL
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you Debby for your Congratulatory comment. I promoted this image on Twitter for "World Snake Day". A very misunderstood and feared creature, who is very necessary, as they are super-effective, all-natural pest control. They eat vectors and carriers of many diseases, including The Plague and Lyme disease. Snakes won’t raid your garden or chew up your wires, but they will eat the critters that do. They are vilified, like bats and spiders (I always wonder how they crept into the Halloween celebration).

very nice photo. L
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you, Constance. These guys are very fast and can be difficult to photograph. It must have felt quite safe, all curled-up and ready to strike if need be. Not a venomous snake though. Although it would not be too fun to have a snake bite at all.

Great image of this amazing creature. Glad it wasn't a rattler! Featured in American Desert Southwest.
Janet Marie replied:
Wouldn't even go near it if it was a rattler, as I had to get down on the ground for this one. It was trying to get away from me, and took shelter under my vehicle. Thank you for giving this special recognition of a Homepage Feature in your wonderful art group, American Desert Southwest. I really appreciate it!
