Description
The Arizona Prickly Pear Cactus is one of my favorite cactus. They only bloom in the springtime. Here, is the Engelmann Prickly Pear Cactus, Opuntia engelmannii, perhaps the most widespread of all prickly pear cacti. The spines are shorter than the Tulip Prickly Pear cactus that I have growing in my desert garden of joy, and they point downward on the flat part of the paddles.
This capture was taken right in my own desert garden of joy. The Englemann Prickly Pear have such soft, delicate, lemony yellow petals. Sitting atop the upper margins of the leaves (paddles) and the emerging fruit. Proudly adorning the fruit, like a boutonnière worn in a tuxedo.

I guess people don’t feel as you do about it since there are no likes, faves, and comments about it. I have been pricked a lot by all these various cacti with all the hundreds of flower captures. It just sits up there looking like a carnation boutonnière. I am delighted that you feel it’s a solitary beauty, and that you have enjoyed my description. I do put a lot of thought in those.
