On the outskirts of Tucson, Arizona (USA), a small but vital part of the Sonoran Desert is preserved as the Saguaro National Park (East-Rincon Mountain District) It's one of 3 national parks in Arizona.
At the Riparian Overlook stop. I wanted to capture some Teddy Bear Cholla Cactus. Along my walk, I noticed the "unnoticeable" wildflowers, I love to photograph.
As a bonus, I saw my favorites, butterflies. If not for all the gentle wing movement, I would have missed them. This Elada Checkerspot, was "A Basking Butterfly," (the activity where a butterfly rests with outstretched wings in the sunshine in order to absorb as much heat as possible), are a fairly slow, weak flyer, and they are small, having 1.5 inches or 3.3 cm wingspans. Down on bended knee, due to their slow nature, I was able to capture it in action.

Beautiful capture dear Janet! This gorgeous creature really pops out in this wonderful image!
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you, Sharon for your lovely words expressed. A very trying and difficult photo opportunity. Such a tiny butterfly, I had to try 3 different lens. Thankfully they are not good fliers, as usually can photograph butterflies with my zoom lens. My macro lens did the trick. I was shocked at the results.
Atalay Karacaorenli
Wow! This looks sensational.
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you Atalay. It was quite difficult to photograph, being so small. I am glad to know how you feel.
Marilyn DeBlock
Beautiful capture - congrats on your features, Janet!
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you, Marilyn for your congratulatory comment. With great effort and patience, I managed to capture the simple beauty of this tiny butterfly. You never know what unintended photographic moments may come along.
Denise Harty
Such a little beauty! L/F
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you, Denise. A dare to be noticed moment for me, as I was going for a shot of the teddy bear cholla cactus. I tried 3 different lenses to get this shot, as I had to get down on the rocky ground with my macro lens. I have never used that lens for a butterfly before. These are considered poor flyers.
Debra Lynch
Awesome, I love the background treatment for this lovely little guy. L/F
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you Debra for your wonderful words expressed. I really appreciate it! No special background treatment. Just a shallow depth of field shot, and the background is the natural rocky, soil behind this very small butterfly, on a very tiny wildflower.
Jerry Bokowski
Your love of Flutterbies shows in this, Janet. They are such an amazing little creature!...,fav / like
Janet Marie replied:
Jerry! Thank you for stopping by my gallery to share your lovely thoughts about my photography. I am glad you like this and have chosen it as one of your favorites. I really appreciate it! This was such a difficult photo session with this little guy, oh my! Between 3 different lenses used, I managed to pull off some lovely shots. Especially considering how small they are. A dare to be noticed moment. ๐๐๐๐

Excellent capture! LF
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you so much Kate. I am glad that you like this and feel itโs excellent. I appreciate knowing that and also for you choosing this as one of your favorites. This is such a small butterfly it was not easy capturing it, having to try out three different lenses to get this capture. Taking noticed of the unnoticed. Janet ๐
