Description
While visiting Cave Creek Canyon, part of the Coronado National Forest, in Portal, Arizona, we planned to also visit Chiricahua National Monument as well. You can reach Chiricahua National Monument by traveling the Scenic By-Way of Forest Road to Pinery Canyon.
This drive offers access to the forested floor of Pinery Canyon and the high slopes of the Chiricahuas. We specifically planned this trip to take this scenic drive. High clearance vehicles are strongly recommended. 4WD is also beneficial, if available. Traveling with our married children who had such a vehicle. An early snow storm had just come through days earlier, closing this road, but had reopened. So it was a bit of an adventure to traverse this winding dirt road, not really knowing what to expect.
Here is a vision of the beauty of those high slopes of the Chiricahua Mountains, that we saw along the way. You can also take this route coming from Chiricahua National Monument as well.

After seeing your picture I have no choice, but to go back after a snow.
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you Rudolf for visiting and sharing your thoughts about this. This view can only be seen traveling the Forest Rd, from Cave Creek Canyon in Portal, Arizona, heading west to arrive right outside the entrance to Chiricahua National Monument. It is a winding dirt road and is best in a truck, a sheer scenic by-way!

Fantastic capture of this gorgeous landscape, Janet! Loved it there!
Janet Marie replied:
Jurgen! Thank you so much for stopping by my gallery to share your wonderful comment about my photography. I’m glad that you like it and have chosen it is one of your favorites. I really appreciate it. This can only be seen by leaving Cave Creek Canyon heading west to the Chiricahua National Monument. It’s a winding dirt road and is best traveled by truck. Our 3rd trip that year in November, we decided to take that road all the way to the monument. What scenic route. A snow storm came through 3 days before.
