Description
A four hour road trip, north of Athens, Greece, takes us to the village of Kalampaka.
This is a panoramic shot of the "Stone Forest." In the center of this vast rock complex of Meteora, Greece, that includes these forested hills, is the Doupiani Rock, part of the unique Meteora famous rock formations. Truly capturing the magnificence of this place.
Meteora, featuring towering sandstone rocks and age-old monasteries, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and is a leading tourist attraction. Thousands of tourists visit to admire the unique landscape and get a look into monastery living.
Monks and hermits have been finding refuge in this unique rock formation for more than a thousand years. Two of the six Eastern Orthodox monasteries—some dating back to the 14th century—remain in place, Monastery of Rousanou is seen in the foreground right, and Monastery of St. Nicholas Anapausas is in the back right.
