Pictured here, is the "Dark" Tropical Buckeye (Junonia evarete nigrosuffusa). I had never seen one before in my life. Butterflies like to land on this "pot of gold lantana." It does seem to be a regular visitor to the Arizona Sonoran Desert, and they like to flutter all over the place, not staying still for long. So I certainly had to be quick about photographing them.
Nothing describes these lantanas better than their name itself. Featuring a bright and luminous yellow color. The plump blooms of yellow that contrast brightly against the greens will shine brightly in the afternoon sun. It seems this butterfly would agree.
