Description
The fire barrel cactus (ferocactus gracilis) is native to Mexico (Baja California). They are common in Arizona landscape. They produce yellow or red blooms, with red spines.
The first time I had come across this variety, generally photographing the Sonoran Desert favorite of mine, the fish-hook barrel cactus blooms. They bloom during the summer.

Stunningly beautiful Janet! L/f
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you so much Kim. This barrel cactus bloom was most beautiful indeed. I have never photographed this particular variety, as they are not native to Arizona. Generally seen in landscape settings, as was the case here.
