I love the diverse plants in the Arizona Sonoran Desert, and I am fortunate to be able to have some of that diversity right in my own desert garden of joy. I have many species of Cholla Cacti around my home, and have had the pleasure to welcome the springtime blooms on all the various varieties of cacti.
This here is the Cane Cholla or Walkingstick Cactus, producing these lovely pink flowers. The petals have a soft, delicate look to them.The arms of the cactus grow quite long, spindly, and in all directions. Many cacti grow in the middle of what is called a nurse plant. In my desert, it seems to have chosen to do so in many of the creosote shrubs, as seen here is this image.
So "If Pink Is Your Passion," then these could be a favorite.

You are right, the desert floral are exotic, meaning originating in or characteristic of a distant foreign country. It is very characteristic of my Arizona Sonoran Desert (USA).
