Description
๐ A Series of the Curve-billed Thrasher's daily routine and antics can be viewed in my "Desert Birds Collection." ๐
We have many Sonoran Desert dwellers, who have made our home, their home. The Sonoran Desert Curve-billed Thrasher is common in our desert garden of joy. It's said to generally reside where cholla and saguaro cacti, ocotillo, mesquite and palo verde trees, and creosote bushes are prevalent. They seem to love to make their nests in the Jumping Cholla Cactus around my home.
It is so interesting and amusing, to see them go about their daily routine and antics. Here is one of those moments. It's a February day, and it has leaped from its nest in the Jumping Cholla Cactus, and is perched on the fence. It seems to be getting some sunshine, a breeze gently blowing its feathers, but is torn between staying there or getting back to the nest. Hence, literally and figuratively, it says, "I'm On The Fence!"
The Curve-billed Thrasher that lives in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona and northwestern Mexico looks different than the form that lives in the Chihuahuan Desert of Texas and central Mexico, and they may be separate species.
The demeanor of the curve-billed has been described as "shy and rather wild", but it allows humans to view it closely. It is very aggressive in driving out potential threats, whether competitors for food or predators of its chicks.

The detail in this is amazing, right down to the microscopic dots on her feathers. Great capture, as always, Janet! Featured in American Desert Southwest.
Janet Marie replied:
Jane! Thank you for your sweet and lovely comment about this series. The thrashers work as a couple and it is difficult to tell the difference between the male and female. They are such a wonderful bird to watch. I get that privilege as I have natural desert vegetation that they make their home. They build their nests in the Jumping Cholla Cactus, sing at the tops of my Ocotillo, as well as their calling for a mate. They also go along the rocked areas of my walkways, making a huge mess looking for bugs. So they just make themselves right at home. Not even noticing I am capturing their antics when I can. Thank you also for the HOMEPAGE FEATURE, in your lovely Art Group, "AMERICAN DESERT SOUTHWEST!" What a privilege to have my artwork recognized in this special way. I really appreciate it! Big hugs, Janet๐

Great title and a really detailed and wonderful shot of one of your thrasher friends! It was a pleasure to view this wonderful and named bird image that is now exhibited among the homepage features for the group, Wild Birds Of The World - A Nature Photography Group. L/F
Janet Marie replied:
William! I am elated that you have decided to feature this on the HOMEPAGE of your aweSoMe Art Group, "WILD BIRDS OF THE WORLD A NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY GROUP!" I delightfully had the privilege last February to capture this Thrasher in and around its nest in the Jumping Cholla Cactus. It truly was on the fence as to what it wanted to do, going to its nest, and landing of the fence. It was quite cooperative that day for me, the paparazzi, capturing its antics. I am glad that you like the title and appreciate your lovely words expressed about this. I was a little hesitant about submitting this, because it landed on the fence. So glad you did! Janet๐

They have so much personality, Janet, and you have captured it here!....fav / like
Janet Marie replied:
They do have so much personality. They have chosen our home as their home. They have "made themselves at home" as the expression goes. I am glad you like it and have chosen it as a favorite too! Big hugs!
