Description
After visiting the Acropolis and the historic Dionysiou Areopagitou Street neighborhood, we finally arrive for "A Visit To Acropolis Museum."
The Acropolis Museum, is an archaeological museum focused on the findings of the archaeological site of the Acropolis of Athens. The museum was built to house every artifact found on the rock and on the surrounding slopes. Nearly 4,000 objects are exhibited over an area of 150,695 square feet (14,000 square meters).
I see a pun in the making here, how innovative of the museum, to be able to "kill two birds with one stone," so to speak, by incorporating these remains of an ancient Athenian neighborhood (the ruins are a part of Roman and early Byzantine Athens, as pictured here). All of this was discovered during an archaeological excavation. You get the best of both worlds with this one. This archaeological discovery can be viewed through the great opening at the museum's entrance, as well as through the glass floor of the interior spaces (shot, looking towards the exit).
More than 3,000 years of Athenian life, are captured in the 43,055 square feet (4,000 square meters) of excavated remains. Which unfold at the base of the museum. The building appears to hover above the excavation, supported by massive pylons (as pictured here). Which were placed with great care among the antiquities. AMAZING, right!
The museum is located by the southeastern slope of the Acropolis hill, on the ancient road that led up to the "sacred rock" in classical times. The entrance to the building is on Dionysiou Areopagitou Street.
