💕 Come visit more of my bird photography, in my "Desert Birds" Collection💕
We have many Sonoran Desert dwellers, who have made our Arizona home, their home. The House Finch (Haemorhous mexicanus), is common in our natural desert acre. It can be very difficult to photograph them, as there is a lot of native desert plants to hide in.
We have a lot of tall ocotillos, that is one of those desert plants, not as a hideout, but rather a lookout, landing spot, stopping point, or maybe just to rest. They are used by many different birds as a vantage point, including this female house finch, who is here with her mate, who has landed at the very tippy top.
The time of year is autumn. They seemed to want to hang out for a while at the top of this particularly large ocotillo, but still fluttering all about. I did manage to pull off some shots with my new zoom camera, alone and together. I tend to take shots of the male, being much more colorful, and a lady friend is not always present. So, since they were together I had to capture a moment for her to shine as well. Look for that series of playful images.
