Description
This black and white photography, paints a picture of nostalgia, with a rustic old tree, split-rail fencing, and we can't forget the windmill. Part of the memories of The Historic Empire Ranch, located in Cienega Valley, southeast of Tucson and 10 miles north of Sonoita, Arizona (USA).
The historic Empire Ranch has been a working cattle ranch for 140 years. It was originally established in the 1860’s as a homestead ranch of a 160 acres. Its rich history includes successive ownership by two prominent ranching families, two corporations, and finally by the Federal Government on behalf of the public.
Today the Empire Ranch House reflects the story of ranch life in Southeast Arizona, from the harsh, unforgiving years of the frontier era, down to our day. In 1997, a group of private citizens formed the Empire Ranch Foundation.
Its mission is “To protect, restore and sustain the Empire Ranch historical buildings and landscape as an outstanding western heritage education center.” (Empireranchfoundation.org website)
Makes me think of this old Chinese Proverb: "When the winds of change blow, some people build walls, and others build windmills!"

I thought the black and white lent itself to conveying the feel of a 140 year old cattle ranch. I look forward to seeing it in the Spring. It’s surrounded by fabulous mountains. You must be from the mountainous area of Wyoming. You will have to share your Wyoming with us.
