Description
What's yellow, green, and simply glorious during Springtime, in my Arizona Sonoran Desert paradise garden home? Why none other than our 10 Palo Verde Trees!!
The name is Spanish and means "green stick." The bark of a palo verde tree is green because it's filled with chlorophyll. It's the Arizona State Tree! Designated as such in 1954. Arizona hosts two native species, the Foothills Palo Verde and the Blue Palo Verde, living to be 100 years, even up to 400 years old. Growing 20 to 30 feet tall.
But there is another species as well, as seen here, The "Desert Museum" Palo Verde Tree. It's named after the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. The name was created in 1986, when staff members at the museum, began to notice thornless palo verde trees that bloomed throughout the summer.
Here is a close-up of these delightful yellow blossoms looking south. Showcasing these desert flora against a vivid blue sky. It's as though they are floating in midair. This time of day I get a break from the bees, who feel ownership of ALL my desert flowers.
Oh, how I love my springtime, "Palo Verde Florals."

Why, thank you Jurgen. I am delighted you think so. The palo verde tree blossoms are beginning, but not in full force yet. It is Arizona's state tree.

Janet, gorgeous shot. f/l
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you, dear Cindy! I am delighted at how you feel about my springtime photography in the Arizona Sonoran Desert. Waiting for all the palo verde trees to burst with these gorgeous yellow blooms. Getting in close truly shows their beauty. The landscape will be a sea of yellow soon.
Vicky Sweeney
Beautiful image of these gorgeous Palo Verde flowers!
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you, Vicky. Being from Arizona, you know the beauty of the palo verde tree springtime blooms. Generally, people just take notice of a tree full of yellow blossoms. I really love to experience them up close and personal. I especially like the desert museum palo verde trees, as they don't have those wicked thorns. But most of my palo verde trees do. So this is a favorite of mine. I appreciate you taking notice of these blooms.
Michael May

Wow! This is a GREAT macro photograph of these brilliant but diminutive flowers, Janet! Quite unique and very beautiful. Well done my friend! Fav'd
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you Douglas for your kind words expressed about my Desert Museum Palo Verde Tree. A favorite on my desert acre of joy. Actually this variety, the flowers are not at all "diminutive" and it has no thorns. I have many other varieties of palo verde trees, that do have small flowers. They don't photograph as well close-up, but capturing the entire tree in bloom. I did not photograph any this spring, 2022. I appreciate you stopping by and choosing this as one of your favorites.
Marcia Colelli
Excellent perspective capture with nice composition and colors. L/F
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you Marcia, for taking notice of the composition and perspective. It's all about the flowers with this one. This spring they were extra abundant, which means lots of bees, pollen, and a being a little messy for a while. Their beauty makes it all worth it. I appreciate you choosing this as a favorite too.
