Rock formations fascinate me, and atop of Mt. Lemmon, Arizona (USA), part of the Catalina Mountain Range, in the Coronado National Forest, there is no shortage of these stone edifices. The Sky Islands, a scenic by-way (General Hitchcock Highway or Catalina Highway), which runs 26 miles from the Tucson Valley floor to the town of Summerhaven.
Along this stretch of highway at the top, it's a sea of forest and here we can see this bare rock sticking up from the pine forest, looking to me like an great white shark, coming up from the water. As we were driving along, this lovely scene came into view. I couldn't resist capturing the unique beauty of "Santa Catalina Splendor."
