Description
On the outskirts of Tucson, Arizona (USA), a small but vital part of the Sonoran Desert is preserved as the Saguaro National Park (East-Rincon Mountain District) It's one of 3 national parks in Arizona. Here the Saguaro Cactus, monarchs of the cactus world, reached out to welcome me to this surprisingly lush and diverse desert landscape.
It did so throughout the Park, but especially at the Riparian Overlook stop. I wanted to capture some Teddy Bear Cholla Cactus. Along my walk, I noticed the unnoticeable wildflowers, I love to photograph. As a bonus, I saw my favorites, butterflies. If not for all the gentle wing movement, I would have missed them. The Elada Checkerspot, are a fairly slow, weak flyer, and they are small, having 1.5 inches or 3.3 cm wingspans. Down on bended knee, due to their slow nature, I was able to capture it in action.
Here it landed on inconspicuous, dainty, wildflowers, "Rock Jasmine or Pygmyflower" as they are called. Butterfly to flower, it was a "Tiny On Tiny," easy landing.

You're welcome! And certainly you still did great despite the camera not cooperating. I'm never able to get a good shot of any wildlife at seems. They're just too fast for me! This is a very good butterfly shot
Janet Marie replied:
First of all, I have only try capture butterflies in the wild. I have found it to be a success, only if they are really into the flower they are landing on. Otherwise, with their amazing eyesight, they are all over the place. I have yet to visit a butterfly garden of sorts. There is one in Scottsdale that I hear is great. I hope one day to go there, and have a field day at capturing them. I appreciate your reply.

very nice closeup of that little creature! I like how he is perfectly contrasted by the patch of dark background, excellently done shot!
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you so much, Chance, for visiting my gallery and sharing your thoughts about my artwork. It was such a difficult shot to capture. My camera was not cooperating at all. First trying to use my long lens which does not use manual focus, a figured the macro would be out of the question, as it would fly away. So did after getting on my knees on rocky soil, managed to have a few successful captures, such as this one. The dark background is a rugged rock. Plenty of those around, as this was taken at Saguaro National Park, near Riparian Overlook stop. It’s a very tiny butterfly and a very tiny flower. Hence my title. I am glad you like it, I really appreciate it! Janet 💕

Auto focus can be frustrating. Any MAN made machine can malfunction and that’s why I am not too thrilled with today’s “Self Driving Cars”, Janet. That said, you overcame issues to get a great shot here!....Fav/ like
Janet Marie replied:
It’s a very small butterfly and was difficult to get in close. I missed out on a lot of images on the pink flowers, but still captured it on other vegetation. I appreciate you choosing this as one of your favorites too. 💕💕💕💕

ArtBudette, you are totally awesome. You never seem to miss an opportunity to capture the incredible beauty of your environment. "Tiny On Tiny" is a sweet and beautiful gold medal work of art. Sweetheart, you rock on world. l.v.f.
Janet Marie replied:
Dave, ArtBud! Aren't you sweet to visit my gallery and share your always wonderful thoughts about my artwork. This was a very frustrating photography session. My camera was giving me a hard time trying to get a close-up of this tiny butterfly. The camera kept trying to focus on what surrounded the butterfly. I missed out on a lot more beautiful shots due to that. I am glad for what I did get. So, I am sharing my Autumn day at Saguaro National Park. I appreciate your confidence in my abilities, and so this sweetheART, humbly accepts your gold medal. I am so glad you like it, and have chosen it as a favorite of yours. đź’•Janet ArtBudette
