**Explore Zion National Park Travel Art, in my "Zion National Park-Utah" Collection**
For me, there is one National Park, that stands out amongst the many wonderful National Parks in southern Utah, bar none, it is "Zion National Park!" It's just dripping with so much beauty, it has stopped this visitor in her tracks, leaving me awe-struck." In the past 30 years of visiting there, it has continued to do so!
In the center of all this is Mount Carmel Junction, located at the east side of the park. Coming from Arizona, that entrance is our first experience into the park. To get from the east entrance, to the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive, one must drive through the 1.1 mile, Mt. Carmel tunnel. The west entrance from the town of Springdale, is via a twisting and switchback-filled road making for a marvelous, breathtaking, and scenic cruise through the red rock canyons.
The Zion-Mt. Carmel tunnel, was built in 1927, when most cars were smaller than today's vehicles. Big windows were carved out of the rock, not only for light and ventilation, but as places where loose rock could be dumped into the canyon below. These windows also provided spectacular views and a foregleam of the beauty ahead. Stopping in the tunnel is not allowed, but one is able to slow down to take a shot, provided no car(s) are traveling behind us. Since this is a sight of unusual beauty, through the window of a tunnel, giving me "Tunnel Vision" in more ways than one.

Mona! Thank you dear lady for sharing your lovely thoughts about this. You know the story behind it. When traveling there for the first time, it gives you such a lovely glimpse of what you will see when you come out of the dark tunnel. Like you are looking into a secret world. I am glad you like it and have chosen it as one of your favorites too! I really appreciate it! Janet π

Janet Marie replied:
Thanks to the builders of this tunnel at Zion National Park, as they are the oneβs who carved this window in Mt. Carmel while carving through the mountain. We are not supposed to stop while in the tunnel, but there was no one behind our car. I had to be most quick about it. This gives those inside an opportunity to see what awaits when we come out of the tunnel. I have an image of this opening while at the bottom of Mt. Carmel on the outside. Thank you Kevin for visiting my gallery and choosing this image to take notice of, and leave a comment on. I really appreciate it!

~ wHere the gates of Zion open before one's eyes ))) Whoever steps the land of Zion, s~he leaves a part of his/her heart tHere forEva ))) Love how you composed this entrance ))) HUGe L & F ))) e~
Janet Marie replied:
Now this, I did not compose. This is one of several window openings inside the tunnel. I always wanted to see and capture the beauty of Zion in this way. No stopping is allowed, but as no one was behind us, Jerry stopped long enough for me to photograph this aWEsoME view. I took a chance and Everything cooperated with me. These windows are the first glimpses of what awaited us on the other side of the tunnel. Wetting our appetite for more. Just teasing us really. I captured this window from the outside of the tunnel. Thank you for those ever inspiring and encouraging expressions about what I try to evoke with every shot. I appreciate the grandiose L & F. πππ

Driving through and viewing glimpses of Zion through these huge windows makes you realize that your nine hour trip is almost over. You have finally arrived! Nice capture as one is not allowed to stop on the road in the tunnel, Janet! Great POV !.....fav / like
Janet Marie replied:
Wow! What a comment about this. I am amazed that all circumstances cooperated to get this shot,as pressure gets me rattled and difficult to concentrate. Itβs a marvel to drive through this carved out rock. The windows along the way helps when you have claustrophobia. I did manage to photograph out two windows. I am delighted that you like it and feel it is a great POV. I appreciate you choosing this as one of your favorites too M ππππ

Janet Marie replied:
Aurelio! How wonderful of you to visit my gallery and notice my photography of this. It was amazing I pulled it off, because you are not supposed to stop in the tunnel. With no car lights behind us, I had to be quick. Everything cooperated, and I got my shot. I have an image outside the tunnel looking at this window carved out of the rock. I will be posting it soon. I am glad you like it and feel itβs wow and nice work. Thank you for that. I also appreciate you choosing this as one of your favorites. Janet π
