Arizona's Sonoran Desert has such awesome clouds. Spring had just sprung, and I took out time from my desert flowers photography, to capture some March sunsets. I love clouds in all their stages. They stir my imagination and form many thoughts as to what I see with the clouds. They can make a vivid impression on me.
As I step out the backdoor to my natural desert garden of joy, at the end of the day I can be greeted with such with such amazing clouds. Just when you may think you have seen one cloud, you've seen them all. Well, I have never seen one like this. It's like where did this one come from. Looking like a space probe out of the Star Trek film, "The Voyage Home," hovering over the Rincon Mountain range to the East. I just had to grab my camera to capture this "Unreal Cloud Sighting!"
These are Lenticular clouds (thank you Donna Kennedy). According to the AccuWeather Website:
Lenticular clouds have been regularly confused for UFOs throughout history due to the their smooth, round or oval lens-shaped structure. The clouds are not uncommon, but are most regularly found near mountainous areas and can appear singular or stacked like pancakes.
According to AccuWeather Meteorologist Jesse Ferrell, lenticular clouds are formed when air moves over mountains, cooling sufficiently for condensation to take place. Lenticular clouds are different from other clouds because they don’t move, he said.
“They are continually reformed over the same location by new air rising up and over a mountain, condensing and producing the clouds,” Ferrell said.

Beautifully done!! I've seen these wonderful cloud formations in the Sonoran Desert. I've been told they are caused by wind sheer but prefer to believe they are related to the vortexes :)

Thank you dear Donna, for sharing that the Lenticular clouds are your favorite. These are not as fabulous as most clouds by that name, forming a more saucer-like appearance. But they are right up there with a UFO feeling. These types of clouds are due to an obstruction getting in their way, like mountains or a group of buildings. I had to zoom in to the mountains to get this view. I appreciate your lovely words about my artwork, for liking it, and sharing it on your Twitter account. 💕Janet
