Description
"The desert grasslands found within the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area (LCNCA) include some of the rarest habitats in the American Southwest and are home to six endangered species. These grasslands have degraded over the last 100 years into mesquite woodlands due to grazing practices, fire suppression policies, and the introduction of non-native plant species. The loss of grassland has encouraged erosion, reduced watershed function, and decreased available habitat for pronghorn antelope and other species."_ Just a few facts from an internet article by USGS, published 2010.
Las Cienegas is located 45 miles southeast of Tucson, Arizona. Out Sonoita Highway, near milepost 40, we turn east into the Historical Empire Ranch entrance. It's an opportunity to see a different side of the Sonoran Desert, a bit of the old west, cattle country.
We love the sprawling terrain, with beautiful scenery and wildlife, like the pronghorn antelope, and the Mustang Mountains pictured here. With the prominent Butte to the far left, Mount Bruce, commonly known as "The Biscuit." Reminding me of a line in the song, "Home On The Range," "Where The (deer and) The Antelope Play!"

Such a wonderful capture. I'm so glad you got to see them. We have a variety of antelope in the Spring Mountains, however they are so elusive I have never seen them once in my travels. Lovely animals! Featured in American Desert Southwest.
