The San Francisco Peaks are a volcanic mountain range in north central Arizona (USA), just north of Flagstaff and a remnant of the former San Francisco Mountain. The highest summit in the range, Humphreys Peak, is the highest point in the state of Arizona at 12,633 feet (3,851 m) in elevation. The San Francisco Peaks are the remains of an eroded stratovolcano. The mountain is in the Coconino National Forest.
Traveling home from our trip to the Grand Canyon National Park, we decided to take the scenic route of Highway 180, to Flagstaff, Arizona. We had the perfect view of the San Francisco Peaks, with the tallest point covered in snow, Humphrey's Peak. The mountain slopes are layered with mixed pine forest flora, all the way to the valley floor. I just had to stop to capture its beauty. It, just "Peaks Your Interest," does it not!

At 7,000 feet, Flagstaff is gorgeous with it's aspen and pine forests, and is considered a high elevation semi-desert. The plateau region also contains desert, forest, woodland, and grassland biomes.
