Description
It was a trip of a lifetime, a gift from our precious children. It was my first day exploring the countryside of Macedonia. A special day for me, as I got to spend it with a dear artist friend, having the honor to photograph what is dear to her heArt. I wasn't sure what I may encounter along the way, as we walked the path to her vineyard.
Oh my! It was love at first-sight. I couldn't believe my eyes. I love the beauty of the wild and free moments with wildflowers. Poppies are a favorite, but I had never seen red poppies before. I was ecstatic, and threw caution to the wind to get in close, to photograph all their intricacies and nuances. Some sort of insect was not pleased with my intrusion in the grassy landscape, giving me a nasty bite. It haunted me for the next 3 weeks of my European trip, which included, Greece. But in the end, it was worth it, when I returned home to see, what beauty I had photographed.
Papaver rhoeas, commonly known as the Corn Poppy, is one of spring's most eye-catching flowers, thanks to these large, vivid blooms. But this bright, beautiful bloom, does more than light up any countryside. They have quite a history, as I have learned. Hence, probably why they are the National Flower of Macedonia.

Lovely poppy closeup
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you, Johanna Zettler. It was so lovely indeed. Unless you get in close like this, the intricacies would not be noticed. I appreciate you visit.

Just look at this beautiful close-up! Fav
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you so much, Rick for your lovely words expressed. I got bit on the leg by an unknown insect, in North Macedonia, to get this shot. That bite left a permanent scar, and bothered me for the next 3 weeks. I would never traverse tall grass in Arizona (the rattlesnakes are out by this time). It was worth it, as I have never come across a red poppy.

What a fine piece of artwork and I am happy to announce that this beauty has been chosen for a feature on the homepage of our WFS group. Congratulations for this accomplishment. Well deserved!
Janet Marie replied:
Wow, Randy! What an awesome comment about my red poppy photography. I had to travel all the way to North Macedonia and Greece, to see red poppies. Thank you for the special recognition of a HOMEPAGE FEATURE of my work in your art group, Wisconsin Flowers and Scenery. I really appreciate it!

Lovely capture Janet! It brings back memories of a field full of these flowers on Crete in the 1970s just a short walk from our home on the island. Somewhere I’ve got a snapshot of my wife sitting in that field on a gorgeous Spring day. Good times! Thanks for the memory jog!!! ;) L/F
