Description
The Watchman is one of Utah's Zion National Parks most recognized feature. It sits prominently above the South Entrance Park Headquarters, The Watchman Campground, and the town of Springdale, Utah. As part of a jagged ridge line that runs on the East side of Zion Valley, it GUARDS the southern portion of this ridge, thus, this ridge given the name "Watchman." Which reminded me of a line in the song, "Every Breath You Take," by Sting, "I'll Be Watching You." Hence, my title for this image!!
This is most famous and recognizable shot of this giant rock buttress. With all the greenery in the foreground and a beautiful cloud filled sky for a backdrop, really makes "The Watchman" stand out!

In a sea of remarkably captured landscapes, this one really stands out, Janet. One of my Bucket List trips is a sojourn to Zion. I heard that it was beautiful when I was in Flagstaff and Sedona, Arizona, visiting the Grand Canyon and traveling through the Switchbacks!

Just what I said in my other reply to your lovely words of commendation, a must see place to visit. This is what greets guests when coming in from the West Entrance into Zion. Robert Redford and Jane Fonda released Rising Star show horse in this beautiful area. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid with Paul Newman and Robert Redford was filmed in Zion. Zion National Park has been featured in many films. We have been here more than 30 times. We just came back in April and we were there May 2015. My husband Jerry has painted many of the famous landmarks. He has them featured on FAA. I am so glad you enjoyed this particular scene. I really enjoy it when FAA members stop to look at the beauty of the West. There is no other place on earth to see this type of landscape.

The Watchman is aptly named as it greets visitors to Zion as they approach the south entrance! This is a very nice capture of it. The movie "Electric Horseman" ends with the magnificent race horse running free across the valley with this amazing crag in the background. Willie Nelson's song 'My Heros Have Always Been Cowboys' serving as a score to this gorgeous scene! 38 years ago...my how time flys by!....fav / like
