Description
***Capture your heArt when you visit my "Sonoran Desert Plant Life" Collection***
"Capture One's Heart" is a play on words, because I certainly have captured a heart here with this image. This is Purple Prickly Pear Cactus in my very own Arizona Sonoran Desert garden. The heart-shaped cactus paddle really stood out in this particular image. I hope you like it. In the summer the flowers are no more. This particular Prickly Pear does not have the wicked looking long thorns, that says go away, as some other types of cacti growing in my desert garden of joy do.

Absolutely beautiful! Do you use newspaper to handle them in addition to thick gloves?
Janet Marie replied:
I donโt handle the cactus. These may not have long thorns, but they have numerous hair-like spines or stickers called glochids, generally barbed and difficult to remove, found in the areoles of the cactus. They easily detach at the slightest touch, lodging in the skin. BAD NEWS! Thank you for feeling this is beautiful. I really appreciate it!

I know they're prickly, dear Janet, but, I can't help myself,! I want to hug (ouch) each one so beautiful, and, so lovely the palette nature provides, that you celebrate so beautifully........so, here's a hug to you too!, and fav............VIVA
Janet Marie replied:
Hugging or touching them in any way, will spell disaster, and I would know. Every spring I get their tiny, hairy spines in my hand, even backing into the various prickly pear cactus on my acre garden of joy. So, it would be safer to send me a virtual hug from Australia, and I appreciate that you did. I shared a bit of information about this in my reply to Lisa. The areoles and glochids are what make these succulents a cactus. All cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are a cactus, as they have to have those parts, to be a cactus. They are modified branches, from which flowers, more branches, and leaves (when present) may grow. It also helps the plant to conserve moisture. The Creator is most wise in the design of these delightful plants that fill my world. So Viva! Thank you dear lady for visiting and sharing your beautiful expressions about it. Big Hugs, Janet๐

Janet, this is so beautiful!
Janet Marie replied:
Lisa! Aren't you such a sweetheArt. I am delighted that you feel the way you do about "Capture One's Heart." Thank you for what your said and choosing to spotlight this in the Community Forum, "Here Are the Winners!" Where you nominated me for the FAA TONY AWARD recipient for April 2021. I am honored and humbled for your love and support. With this, I literally and phonetically captured a heart with this one. I decided to capture it at night with a flash, and surprised myself. It doesn't have the long thorns but those glochids (fine, hairy spines tipped with barbs are even worse) are not be messed with. On the skin, they are irritating, difficult to remove and stay in for a long time. They get me every spring as I don't follow the advice to wear gloves and long sleeves. I tried the long sleeve and these get on them, and then it is difficult to remove the shirt, or if I get them in my pants too. An Acacia shrub trimmed to be a tree, drops its tiny flowers and leaves down on them. And of course you cannot remove them. Big hugs, Janet๐

Fantastic Cactus composition! Love purple and green together. That heart is Perfect!
Janet Marie replied:
Hearts are a favorite of mine, and I enjoy seeing them in nature. Itโs an oddity how the various prickly pear cactus paddles form a shape of a heART. Purple is my passion color, so this one is extra special. Thank you for visiting and sharing your lovely thoughts about this. I truly appreciate it! Janet ๐

Malanda Warner
This is so very pretty Janet! The colours and heart shape so endearing, much like an analogy to young love; enticing but a little painful at times. LF
Janet Marie replied:
Malanda!!! How wonderful of you to visit my gallery!! Always a delight!! What wonderful, lovely comment! Yes being in love at times can be hurtful, especially if one party deals treacherously with the other party. Romantic love is from our Creator, but sadly to say some give no thought to how his great gift should be used and appreciated, hence causing much heartache. The two hearts reminds me of the Phil Collin song, "Two Hearts," has great lyrics! I appreciate the love and favorite too!!! Hugs, Janet
