Description
Arizona's Grand Canyon National Park (USA), is one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World and its vastness humbles the artist and photographer. It is such a joy to attempt to capture its beauty, varied by all the atmospheric conditions at the time.
When walking along the rim trail near Mather Point, I like to stop and peer through the Canyon trees, and view the Grand Canyon. It's as though I am peering through a window, into a secret world. A scenic view of Zoroaster Temple, that would otherwise be missed.
These special vantage points, in black and white, share a "Grand Canyon Dramatic View" through the trees. Late afternoon winter clouds are looming in the background creating wonderful atmospheric conditions.

The Canyon is at its best in color, showing off all the diverse, colorful rock layers. However, I wanted to play around a bit with this dramatic look. Black and white photography is a favorite of mine, as I was exposed to its unique beauty through the lens of my father's work. Ansel Adams has many black and white photography of the Grand Canyon. A favorite photographer of my Dad.

The diffuse rain or fog sharpen the rock in the middle ground and add framing to the entire picture. I also like the black and white which accentuated the great shapes of the rocks.

Thank you Rudolf for your wonderful comment about this. I have this image in color as well. I generally don't feature the Grand Canyon in black and white, but this time of time has so many more shadows, lending itself to feature it this way. I hope to share more.
