Description
One of the legendary sites, that sits beneath the slopes of the Acropolis on the southwest side, is the "Odeon of Herodes Atticus Theater." A stunning open-air theater, at the Acropolis, in Athens, Greece. It was built between 160 C.E.– 174 C.E. by the wealthy benefactor of Athens, Herodes Atticus as an ode to his late wife Rigilla.
It's a look from above, to get this great shot of this theater, as part of my climb up to the Acropolis. You get a view to the city of Athens to the left, and a distant view of the famed "Monument of Philopappos."
Truly a "Greek Odeon - Past and Present," as this was the site of Yanni's September 1993 breakthrough concert "Yanni Live at the Acropolis." It's a marble auditorium today, which seats 4,680 people. Performances are scheduled at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus between May and October. Here, they are preparing for a upcoming "Sting" Concert.
