Description
I especially set out on this day, to photograph the Saguaro Cactus blooms. One place I did so, was here at Sabino Canyon Recreation area, located in Tucson, Arizona (USA). There is a very large and old saguaro cactus that has grown up in the middle of a large mesquite tree. It had been 2 years since I visited this spot, when the saguaro cactus blooms. May of 2018, I missed out as I traveling out of state.
Saguaro cacti are putting on a spectacular bloom this spring of 2019, here at Sabino Canyon, it is pure "Saguaro Blossom Bliss!"
I thought you might enjoy a few fun facts: Peak blooming is from early May to early June. They have a short lifespan of 1 day. They have a lot of "flower power" as a single saguaro can produce as many as 100 flowers in a season. The saguaro cactus flower "gets by with a little help from their friends" with the pollination process — this includes bats, bees, moths, hummingbirds and white-winged doves. An added bonus is they have a delightful fragrance, not Christian Dior's J'adore, but the desert friends can't enough of that sweet melon scent. Oh yes, and one more point, this brilliant bloom was designated Arizona's state flower in 1931.

Another miraculous beauty Janet Marie! FLTw
Janet Marie replied:
Saguaro cactus blooms are uniquely amazing, and have a fragrance of watermelon. It’s rare to be able to photograph them at eye level. This giant saguaro cactus grew up through its nurse plant, a velvet mesquite tree, hindering its ability for some of the arms to grow tall. Thank you for being taken with these delightfully unique saguaro cactus blooms. I appreciate you choosing this as a fave and sharing on Twitter.

A fantastic saguaro macro image Janet F/L
Janet Marie replied:
Christiane! Thank you for stopping by my gallery to share your wonderful comment about this. Saguaro cactus flowers are so unique, it’s no wonder they are Arizona’s state flower. This saguaro growing up through a mesquite tree that grew tall and hindered the arms, keeping them low, made it possible to get up-close and personal with their blooms. I am glad you like this and have chosen it as one of your favorites too.

Revisiting this beauty, Janet, and promoting you in the art group, Beauty of Arizona, discussion thread. I stand by what I said before. Sharing this on Facebook, too. Fabulous photography. Your love for the Arizona Sonora Desert flora certainly shines through with this one. like/fave/Facebook

Another TREASURE! Wish we can start traveling safely. Informative artist notes. Love it!
Janet Marie replied:
Nieves! I am somehow missed your wonderful comment. I am sorry about that. This particular saguaro cactus has low lying arms due to having grown through a tree. It therefore lent itself for me to get in close. I am glad you read my backstory, and that you loved it. Thank you for visiting and sharing your thoughts about "Saguaro Blossom Bliss." I really appreciate it! Janet💕

That is indeed amazing. I would imagine the season might be gone.. I was going to take pictures today and everything was just ugly. Definitely going to have to wait for monsoon season to really go at it again. BUT tonight, I decided to try to capture the Milky Way rising over the Rincons since there have been no clouds, and I think I was pretty successful! I think the dust actually added to the brightness of the scene! So not all was lost from this ugly weather day.
Janet Marie replied:
The season is not gone yet, but it is getting close. I have been seeing Saguaro Cactus around town, still blooming. So you still have time to photograph the blooms up-close.

A beautiful up close capture! I guess I'm going to have to go to Sabino Canyon before they all disappear
Janet Marie replied:
Isn't it amazing that these regal, stately saguaros can produce such a beautiful bloom for our enJoyMEnt. It has been blooming for over 100 years, never getting tired of doing so. Yes, the season is almost gone for viewing their unique beauty. Today was an ugly weather day, could hardly see the mountains, it is certainly feeling like June now, our dry summer (one of our 5 seasons). Thank you so much Chance for stopping by and sharing such a nice comment. I truly appreciate it! Janet💕
