đź’• A Series of the Cactus Wren daily routine and antics can be viewed in my "Desert Birds Collection." Their story.đź’•
Ah, the cactus wren (Campylorhynchus brunneicapillus), the largest wren in the United States. This State Bird of Arizona, since 1931, is one of the signature birds found in the Sonoran Desert. It's common name comes from its frequent use of saguaro and cholla cacti as nesting sites, which provide protection to both young and roosting adults.
The cactus wren is of such marvelous design by our CREATOR, to build such a cozy home for the winter, and for their young, in the spring. The male and female have built this home together, in the relatively safe place of this Cane Cholla Cactus.
I have had a lot of pleasure photographing this cactus wren couple, and their ever daily housekeeping of "Their Penthouse Suite." I say that, because they have chosen the top floor of this cactus that has grown tall, luxuriously fitted with the springtime magenta blooms, and offering fine views of my lovely desert garden of joy!
I am feeling like a paparazzi, capturing their every move, sharing just one of those moves. Taking the front entrance requires hopping along this spiny cactus limb. They don't seem to mind, as they do this throughout the day. I am so glad I can share their story.

A choice piece of real estate for these wrens to make their home. Beautiful colors and clarity!
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you, Pat for taking note of my desert bird photography. I have about 700 different birds to post, (although I won't), this particular couple really kept me engaged with their life. It was quite a privilege to do so. I have only posted a few of the images of their story. They had a front and rear entrance to this home.

You sure bring to life all creatures of the Sonoran Desert with your compelling descriptions. Always a treat to see the desert up close through your lens! Nicely done, and great focus here - featured in Arizona!
Janet Marie replied:
This Cane Cholla Cactus has quite a story to it, sad in the end, but I derived much enjoyment from the Cactus Wrens that set up housekeeping in it. Was amazing to view their daily activities. I like the way the male and female work together in their endeavors. I truly appreciate your enthusiastic interest in my "compelling" descriptions, so nice of you to say. A BIG thank you for the HOMEPAGE FEATURE, in your marvey Art Group, "ARIZONA!" Also for the luscious words expressed here, I am delighted to know how you feel. Just the emotions I hoped to evoke. There is more to their story. Janetđź’•

Wow, I love this image of this cactus and it's little tenant! LOL The cactus wren! In this lighting, the cactus appears to have a web over it. So cool! I must return to your web page here and view the other photos in this series. You always have such great series. L/F
Janet Marie replied:
Wow, Deborah! How wonderful to hear from you. It’s been a while. So glad to see you are okay. With the camera zoomed in on the cactus wren’s activities at its home in the blooming Cholla Cactus, it creates a blurred background (a natural abstract background, without a need of photography enhancement programs, which I don’t have). A creosote bush is in bloom with yellow flowers, a touch of it is in the front too. My shots of the couple in this cactus are November 2017, February 2018, and April 2018. This cactus was removed in the summer of 2018, before it fell over. It was a bit top heavy, and in a path made to get around in our natural desert acre. I felt a bit sad for me and the birds, they had to find a new home. I have more to post with these cactus wrens keeping house. Thank you dear lady for your insightful, inspiring words expressed. Your reaction to this is just what I hoped to evoke. I appreciate your interest and choosing this as one of your favorites too. I truly appreciate it! Big hugs, Janet 💕

Beautiful cactus wren and cactuses Janet Marie~!1
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you Ruth for stopping by to leave a comment about this. I am glad you feel it's beautiful. I appreciate that! It is a Cane Cholla Cactus in bloom. It stands quite tall and Jerry removed the lower branches. The nest does seem as though it was built in the Penthouse. It has a front and back entrance. I have enjoyed their daily activities of housekeeping.
