Description
It is a wonderful reminder that "Spring has Sprung," when we hear in our Arizona Sonoran Desert garden of joy, the coo of a "Mourning Dove". It may sound sad, but it signals the beginning of this birds habits of nesting, claiming territory, raising their young. Beyond her sorrowful song is a message of life, hope, renewal and peace.
We have many Sonoran Desert dwellers, who have made our home, their home. My home sits on an acre of natural desert landscape, my very own garden of joy. It always amazes me where a bird may decide to build a nest, and doves are no exception. In the spring of 2017 and 2018 (never before that), the doves had built their nest in my Cane Cholla Cactus.
They didn't this spring of 2019, but as I was walking about my backyard, photographing the cactus flowers, I noticed that my only Jumping Cholla Cactus, had a dove build her nest on top of an abandoned cactus wren nest (was destroyed by all the winter rain). They have quite long, wicked looking spines, but somehow she manages to traverse her spiny domain, for the sake of her young. It may be a difficult or unpleasant situation, but she is what you'd call a "Dove Sticking It Out!"

Last year, 2018, they nested April, May, June, and early July, in our desert garden of joy. I have many images to go through to share some of the highlight moments. I missed out on capturing the young this year in a different type of cactus, but another set of eggs have been laid. So I hope to capture the young. Last year was an amazing time, earning the trust of the mama doves. I am glad you like this and I appreciate you choosing this as one of your favorites. ππππ

always so interesting to see your captures of these creatures nesting in the pokiest places. Wonderful work and description as always!

Yes it is interesting how doves and other birds build their nests in such precarious places. This is a jumping cholla cactus, shot this spring, as I shared with you. She flew the coop before I got to see her babies. But she is back for more. I hope to view her young soon. Thank you for taking the time to be so supportive of my photography. I truly appreciate wonderful comment, and glad that you like the description too. πJanet
