I was out capturing some beautiful clouds, standing in the middle of the street, at my Arizona Sonoran Desert home. Low and behold, I noticed all these butterflies flying and landing all over this American Red Lantana shrub, also called Texas Flame.
Since I am a butterfly nut, crazy for butterflies, I turned my attention to attempt to photograph these lovely creatures. I say attempt, because they would not stay still, and they were NOT having it, being photographed that is. I knew I would not be able to get up close and personal. So I decided to use my telephoto lens to zoom in on them.
There were plenty of Painted Lady Butterflies, but only one Gulf Fritillary Butterfly. It was constantly on the move, flying all over the place, as though someone shouted, "action." But I was ready with my camera, capturing it as it was, "Coming In For A Landing!"

Lisa! How sweet of you. The painted ladies were more cooperative, then the queen butterfly and this one gulf fritillary. I was only able to do it with my long lens. My best butterfly experience. Both the painted lady and this gulf fritillary did coordinate their colors with the lantana flowers. The painted lady butterfly was a bit more cooperative, staying still a fraction longer. This butterfly was all over the place. Flying far away and then coming back. I was happy to photograph the few moments I could.
