Description
It is a wonderful reminder that "Spring has Sprung," when we hear in our Arizona Sonoran Desert garden of joy, the coo of a Mourning Dove. It may sound sad, but it signals the beginning of this birds habits of nesting, claiming territory, raising their young. Beyond her sorrowful song is a message of life, hope, renewal and peace.
It always amazes me where a bird may decide to build a nest, and doves are no exception. This Cane Cholla Cactus or Walking Stick Cholla, located in my very own desert garden of joy, is once again, being used by a mama dove. It's late April, and she has built her simple nest, and has laid two eggs.
I have used gentle movements, and a soothing voice to coax her into letting me get close. Here she patiently, and tenaciously sits on her nest made from desert vegetation. I zoomed in on her cactus hideaway, loving how the cholla cactus forms a protective frame around her nestled in her nest. I framed the image to capture that. I guess she could say, "I've Been Framed!"

How that dove is not getting poked left and right is beyond me. Just another miracle of the Sonoran Desert. Your love of all creatures great and small of our wonderful region is on full display here with this perfectly composed and framed photograph and excellent description!

Thank you so much, Chance, for your very sweet and thoughtful comment about this piece. She was such a precious dove, that allowed me to capture her journey in the spring of 2018. She displays quite the courage to choose a Cane Cholla Cactus for her nest. Especially with the spiny limbs overhead. She endured them with grace, as did her young. They did not return to this cholla variety, but I did discover this spring, a mama dove in my Jumping Cholla Cactus, as I shared with you during your visit. I am looking forward to posting them soon. I appreciate that you get what I am all about in my photography moments. That I am able to evoke my feelings to those who view my artwork. Janet đź’•

This dove in April of 2018, did seem to become comfortable with me after many days of capturing her story. Another dove used this nest in July, but was not as cooperative. I only managed to take a picture of her nest with two eggs. This mama dove had two sets of babies, but traveled to Europe, so missed out on her next babies.
