Description
π A Series of the Curve-billed Thrasher's daily routine and antics can be viewed in my "Desert Birds Collection." Their story. π
We have many Sonoran Desert dwellers, who have made our home, their home. The Sonoran Desert Curve-billed Thrasher is common in our desert garden of joy.
It is so interesting and amusing, to see them go about their daily routine and antics. Here is one of those moments. Perched high in the tops of one of my Ocotillo stems (has no leaves this time of year, so looks like a dead stick), located in my backyard, near its nest, it is "Just Singing My Song!" The Thrasher's distinctive voice is an abrupt and brash whit-wheet, which sounds like a person whistling to get someone's attention. They can utter songs consecutively two or three times, the length spanning from 2 to 15 seconds. Some phrases are nasal and buzzy; its large vocabulary enables it to produce successive songs, that are usually different from one another.
The Curve-billed Thrasher that lives in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona and northwestern Mexico looks different than the form that lives in the Chihuahuan Desert of Texas and central Mexico, and they may be separate species.
The demeanor of the curve-billed has been described as "shy and rather wild", but it allows humans to view it closely. It is very aggressive in driving out potential threats, whether competitors for food or predators of its chicks.

THAT is an AWESOME capture of this wonderful bird Janet!! (Thanks for sending their song~ how lively and beautiful! Reminds me a little of our Catbird here.. I have one behind my garden that sounds like R2D2 with the beeps and chirps!) Such a handsome pose.. and those Ocotillo Stems do look sharp! I love the way they frame this beauty. * * * * *

Danielle! Thank you for visiting and sharing such an awesome comment. I really enjoyed reading what you had to say. The male sings and makes his calls too. The ocotillo stems look sharp, check out the jumping cholla cactus where it builds its nest. I think about that delicate getting so close. If we just brush them, we are instantly full of stickers. Thank you for sharing about your Catbird calls. I appreciate the FIVE stars. πJanet

Yes they do! They delight us with their calls and songs. They go to the highest point, and so I need to use my long lens. They don't stay their long when I come around with my camera. So it was special to get these shots. I appreciate you choosing this as one of your favorites too! ππππ
