Description
The hedgehog cactus has earned its name, because its short, spiny stems resemble hedgehogs. The most common hedgehog-cactus varieties have intense magenta flowers, although the flowers may also appear in shades of pink, purple and lavender. The blossoms last for five days, opening in the morning and closing at night.
I have about 10 hedgehog cactus groups, of various varieties. I was patiently waiting the arrival of all the buds to bloom forth. They don't all open at one time, which means sharing its luscious color for weeks.
The rabbits come and chomp away at the petals, making for a very disappointing time for me. I need to capture them as soon as they open, before the desert cottontail has it for lunch. We were relocating this hedgehog from one spot to another. While temporarily in this southwestern clay pot, low and behold, this hedgehog cactus group, had seven blooms going at one time.
So in a sigh of relief, escaping the demise of critters, they are "Together At Last"!

They are one of the prettier cactus blooms, with that vibrant pink color. Although, I love all the varieties of cactus flowers.

Oh, but this is a really nice image, Janet Marie! Beautiful composition and you've captured the color very well. Sometimes people may think photographers are manipulating the color because it is so extraordinary, but you got this one exactly right.

Thank you so very much Douglas for lovely words expressed. My hedgehog cactus have the deep dark pink and some are a lighter pink. I haven’t posted this years cactus flowers, and with the wet winter this past season, they are in abundance. Generally when the color is manipulated, the rest of the image ‘s colors are skewed. Hedgehog cactus flowers are quite vivid and need no help. All my images are what I see is what you get. I am delighted that you feel it’s beautiful. I truly appreciate knowing that. Janet 💕

Danielle you are so cute! I photographed many of my wonderful blooms on the hedgehog cacti but really did not want to post them due to some of the flowers being chewed on by the bunny rabbits. This particular group of flowers looks as though they are laid out as a floral arrangement. They are in such unison. I am delighted that you found such enjoyment with their beauty.
