It was glorious spring day, in the Arizona Sonoran Desert. The desert becomes a showy display of color. It was no exception this day in May 2019, at the Saguaro National Park Rincon Mountain District, Tucson, Arizona. (USA). I especially wanted to capture some of the Saguaro Cactus blooms.
I shot a close up of this honing in on the saguaro flower and it's buds, but I just loved the vivid blue, cloud-filled sky it the background. "A Saguaro Budding Moment," wouldn't you say.
The Saguaro Cactus typically grows from seed within the protection of a nurse plant, such as a mesquite tree or palo verde tree. Saguaro flowers bloom for less than 24 hours, opening at night, and remain open through the next day. It will be a busy night, as "A Saguaro Bloom And Its Buds," are ready to burst forth! Moving in to get an up-close and personal view of these unique monarchs of the desert.
These brilliant blooms were designated Arizona's state flower in 1931.

Love the angle Janet Marie! Congratulations on your feature in Beauty of Arizona! FL
Janet Marie replied:
It was a good looking Saguaro. Some get quite rugged with age. The first blossom, and the all the buds waiting their turn. They only bloom in May, possibly into very early June. Most cactus flowers open during the day, closing at night, lasting a few days. But the saguaro cactus blooms at night and is done by the next day afternoon. So bats do their share in the pollination process. Thank you, Debby for your lovely comment about this. I am glad you love the perspective and have chosen it as one of your favorites. I really appreciate it! Janetđź’•

Our state flower is gorgeous, Janet. Lovely example here in front of me!....fav / like
Janet Marie replied:
Aw, Jerry! Aren’t you wonderful to say all that. I just have so much joy capturing these monarchs of the Sonoran Desert. It was extra special getting to photograph them with blooms. Blooming just the opposite of many other cactus flowers that grace our presence. Opening at night and closing up by the next afternoon. Never a dull time with these unique plants. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and choosing it as one of your favorites too. 💕💕💕💕
