💕Explore Saguaro National Park Travel Art, in my "Saguaro National Park - Arizona" Collection💕
It was glorious spring day, in the Arizona Sonoran Desert. The desert becomes a showy display of color. It was no exception this day in May 2019, at the Saguaro National Park Rincon Mountain District, Tucson, Arizona. (USA). I especially wanted to capture some of the Saguaro Cactus blooms.
The Saguaro Cactus typically grows from seed within the protection of a nurse plant, such as a mesquite tree or palo verde tree. Saguaro flowers bloom for less than 24 hours, opening at night, and remain open through the next day. It will be a busy night, as "A Saguaro Bloom And Its Buds," are ready to burst forth! Moving in to get an up-close and personal view of these unique monarchs of the desert.
These brilliant blooms were designated Arizona's state flower in 1931.

I really like the point of view you used to create this image.
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you, Greta for taking notice of the perspective and composition. Saguaros that produce flowers, are very tall at that stage in their life. Way at the top, and against a beautiful, billowy cloud filled sky, I couldn't miss. As I mentioned, I was especially wanting to photograph saguaro cactus flowers, as they only bloom in May and into early June (at least in my area).

Would it be a kick to see all these blooms at once?! Lovely shot.
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you, Alinna for your lovely comment about my saguaro cactus blooms. Sometimes you can come across them with lots of blooms at once, but you can't always count on that. This flower will be dried up by nighttime, as they only open at night, and are done by the next day. I love the saguaro cactus with or without flowers, so this is a treat, as I am fascinated by these unusual looking buds. This is way up there, too. I can only photograph it with my 300mm lens.

Wow - captivating! l/f
Janet Marie replied:
They are captivating for me as well. They bloom at night, and that gives the nectar eating bats an a delicious opportunity to eat and be one of the pollinators. They stay open until the next day. So there is only a short window. This is a first bloom and all the huge buds are waiting to be next. Perhaps by that evening. The flower has a watermelon smell, and these were at the top of this saguaro, probably 30 feet above. I use my 300mm lens to capture these. Thank you Shari for stopping by. I really appreciate the support.

Love the perspective! The solitary bloom is so meaningful: the one blooming before the rest! Awesome image Janet! l/f
Janet Marie replied:
Thank you, Alma, for visiting my gallery and choosing this particular image to comment on. The Saguaro Cactus is unique to our Sonoran Desert, and the blooms are unique too, being our state flower. I wanted to showcase the one bloom, while showing off the hidden beauty of the buds, that sit about 40 feet up. I am glad you love the perspective and feel it’s an awesome image. I appreciate knowing that, and also for you choosing this as one of your favorites. Janet 💕

Saguaro blossoms just call out to you to capture them, Janet. This is a prime example of that fact!.....fav / like
Janet Marie replied:
I have been waiting for two years to share their lovely uniqueness. What a treasure we have to enjoy in our beautiful Sonoran Desert. It is very satisfying to see what I can up with, as they are a bit challenging being so far off the ground. Being so high up, adds the wonderful sky for a backdrop. Thank you for the luscious words expressed. They mean a lot. I appreciate the inspiration and the fave! 💕💕💕💕

Looks like this fella was impatient and couldn't wait for the other buds to open before he showed off his beautiful colors. Beautiful capture, Janet, my artBUDette! The sky is so soft and pretty behind this stately Giant Saguaro. Gorgeous!! L/F Featured in American Desert Southwest.
