It was glorious spring day, in the Arizona Sonoran Desert. The desert becomes a showy display of flowers. Saguaro National Park Rincon Mountain District, Tucson, Arizona (USA), is a great place to do that. I especially wanted to capture some of the Saguaro Cactus blooms, as the month of May is when they begin to blossom.
Moving in to get an up-close and personal view of these unique monarchs of the desert. Honing in on the saguaro cactus flowers and the intricate detail of the cactus itself. The shallow depth of field creates an abstract saguaro in the background. Black and white photography adding to the interest, wouldn't you say.
The Saguaro Cactus typically grows from seed within the protection of a nurse plant, such as a mesquite tree or palo verde tree. Saguaro flowers bloom for less than 24 hours, opening at night, and remain open through the next day.

Whether it be the classic films of the 40's, photography, or your grandmother's charcoal art. My first introduction to your art was the charcoal painting like your grandmother taught. The only one of her grandchildren who took up her charcoal technique. My Dad was a wonderful black and white photographer. Something I grew up with, and did myself, starting at age 12 with my 35mm Argus camera.đź’•đź’•đź’•đź’•
