Description
Since 1933 this extraordinary giant cactus, the Saguaro, has been protected within SAGUARO NATIONAL PARK.
The saguaro has been called monarch of the Sonoran Desert, supreme symbol of the American Southwest, and a plant with PERSONALITY. It is renowned for the variety of ODD, ALL-TOO-HUMAN shapes it assumes...shapes that inspire wild and fanciful imaginings.
I had the pleasure of capturing some of these ALL-TOO-HUMAN SHAPES with personalities. I would like to introduce you to some of them. Here is a Saguaro Cactus that has lived more than 150 years, towering more than 50 feet, weighing 16,000 pounds or more, dwarfing every other thing in this desert, vulnerable during every stage of its life! It has been brave and proud, earning the title of "STANDING TALL!"
