Description
Saguaro National Park East-Rincon Mountain district is east of Tucson, Arizona. It is revered for its cactus forests (especially the monarchs of the cactus world, the saguaro), geologic splendor, and those far-horizon scenic views.
All of those attractions are at their best at an often overlooked part of Saguaro National Park, a site known as the Javelina Rocks. I love to photograph its beauty from this vantage point. Having all the things I love, fascinating rock formations, desert flora of ocotillo, prickly pear, saguaros, and sunny colored springtime brittlebush flowers.
Why called Javelina Rocks, you may wonder. The layer-cake-looking rock here is named after its favorite inhabitant, the javelina. Other small critters find these rocks the perfect place for shelter and shade.
The sky was quite beautiful too, on this late afternoon day in April. Sheer spring splendor!
